digital light painting

..A commonly misunderstood approach to fine art pioneered by only a few artists who not only understand the power of light as a medium, but who create images with the ability of traditional painters.

Light has the ability fall upon a wide range of subject matter - everything - such as architecture, landscapes, and my personal favorite, the human figure. Projecting on the human figure offers what the others don't: the blank canvas of the human figure is by default the most effective visual symbol of humanity.

Now with home theater projectors, a wide choice of subject matter that can be projected onto the figure. 'Light artists' have the choice of static images, video, animation, and interactive content programmed by computers.

As a classically trained painter, I like the choice of brushes, colors, layering, and overall effect of traditional painting. Instead of oils or watercolor paints, I use light as my painting medium. The effect of light is transparent like watercolor; the colors of light above mixing with the color of objects below.

My setup consists of: a Casio DLP Pojector, Apple Macbook Pro (running Windows XP), Wacom Intuos 4, and Corel Painter 11 .. my canvases are often the bodies of dancers and models moving to the sounds of talented musicians.
